I am deeply grateful for the unwavering commitment demonstrated by the dedicated volunteers from District 5 grassroots and the county central committees. Your tireless efforts to raise awareness about Issue 1 have not gone unnoticed.
Many among you dedicated a significant portion of your summer distributing Issue 1 literature, displaying signs, and engaging with your local communities, church congregations, neighbors, friends, and families to educate about the importance of this issue.
The outcome of the election is, in my view, a direct reflection of your exceptional devotion.
Within District 5, Issue 1 received resounding support in the form of a 62% approval from Miami County, 67% approval from Preble County, an overwhelming 75% approval from Darke County, and a narrow yet significant 50.30% backing from Butler County.
While Montgomery County posed a challenge and leaned against us with a margin of approximately 60/40, we knew that this would be an uphill struggle. Nonetheless, I am immensely grateful and proud of the unflagging efforts of the Montgomery County conservatives who tirelessly championed Issue 1 in their precincts.
The good news is that we won 66 of 88 Ohio counties. The turnout across the state was significant, with 38% of all registered voters, coming out to vote on Issue 1, which was ultimately defeated by a margin of 429,000 votes.
Although we lost the battle on Issue 1, this November will determine whether we win the war.
When I examine the results on a county-by-county basis, it appears that the outcome can be predominantly attributed to a sowing of confusion into the campaign that ultimately managed to fracture the conservative vote, particularly within rural communities. This ultimately shifted the trajectory of the election and contributed to the defeat of Issue 1.
These are lessons that we can learn from when developing our messaging for November to defeat the ACLU and Planned Parenthood driven efforts to enshrine unrestricted abortion and to attack parental rights.
The battle for Ohio's future has only just begun and I am encouraged to be fighting alongside so many exceptional, passionate, and hard-working conservatives from District 5.
In times of defeat, it is often tempting to want to give into complacency or to allow fear to take over, but we must remember that the battle is not truly ours, the battle belongs to the Lord. I'd like to encourage you to place your trust in the Lord and wait with expectation to see what He will do in His perfect timing.
